About Us

Who We Are:

The Atlanta Legal Diversity Consortium, Inc. (ALDC) is a not-for-profit corporation whose work is funded by more than 40 law firms, corporations, bar associations, and other legal industry organizations in the Atlanta area.  We support success initiatives for attorneys in Atlanta’s legal community.

Primary Aim:

Our primary focus is to provide skills-based training for lawyers, recent law school graduates, and law students through our STAR Lawyer Training Program.

The ALDC STAR (Strategic Training and Advancement and Retention) Lawyer Training Program offers members and students the opportunity to:   

  • Participate in a relaxed, interactive, and non-judgmental learning environment. 
  • Establish relationships with lawyers from small to large firms and in a variety of fields of practice.
  • Develop a personal “next day” strategy for success and receive immediate feedback from seasoned attorneys dedicated to helping students and lawyers advance and succeed. 

Goals and Initiatives:

The ALDC promotes the recruitment, retention, development, and training of STAR lawyers.  “We teach success.” 

  • Identify and implement specific practices and programs that most effectively advance success for all lawyers, law school graduates, and law students.  
  • Design and implement data evaluation measurements that document ALDC objectives.
  • Create and fund scholarships for third-year law students, with particular focus on minority and women law students.  
  • Develop programs and policies that identify and solve the problems legal employers encounter in attracting and retaining qualified attorneys.

Programs and Activities

STAR Lawyer Training Program, March 5 – April 30, 2008.  

The ALDC is pleased to offer classes to lawyers, recent law-school graduates, and law students to learn success skills and habits.  This signature program provides training in a relaxed, problem-solving learning environment that can be applied the next day.  

The ALDC provides training on these and other topics:   
* How to form relationships with partners
* How to get substantive feedback from partners and senior counsel
* How to be a good mentee
* How to communicate effectively
* How to practice an ownership attitude
* How to avoid the worst associate mistakes
* How to interpret documents
* How to balance work and life
* How to be a “go to” lawyer

Leadership:

Currently, ALDC leadership consist of five Officers and more than 20 Board Directors.  Non-Board members consist of numerous organizations and individuals in the Atlanta legal community
